"Snuggle Notes" By Louis M. Face - Witness
- Chris Haskett - Guitar, Lap Steel, Penny Whistle,
Artificial Woman.
- Not to be taken lightly, not to be taken anywhere if you want
to be invited back. During the recording sessions he had to be
gagged. He kept screaming "Eggs, Eggs, Eggs!". And it would bleed
through to the mikes. If you listen very closely you can hear
"Eggs!" every once in a while. None of us really had learned to put
on women's clothing very well. Chris taught us how. He wanted to
take us to meet what he called his "secret friends", we all
chickened out. Chris is an American living in Leeds, England. Be
fore the move, he lived for a while in Washington DC. I met
Chris in 1979 I think. He was in a band called The Enzymes, who
were easily one of the coolest bands I ever saw. They never put out
any records which is a shame. Surfin' Dave & The Absent Leg ends
was Chris' last band trip. Three years, shows all over Europe and
an album. The paddled in for keeps this year. Look for their record
in the import bins. It's worth the look. Chris has a lot of
problems. I you think you have a clue, please write him. He is
probably out at the laundry with his "secret friends" right now,
but he comes home for meals and beatings.
- 52 Harold Mount / Leeds 6 / England, UK.
- Mick Green - Drums, My Special Friend
- Mick never says much, he's that kind of guy. Kinda rough n'
cuddly. Should have been a sailor. Some say played with Chris in
Surfin' Dave. Old Mick is a limey all the way. He says "Cheers, Ta,
Knickers, Knees Up and Slam It Home Mate!" a lot. I have never seen
anyone drum in a rabbit suit, before Mick.
- 40 Davisville Rd. / Hammersmith / London W12 / England, UK.
- Bernie Wandel - Bass, Food, Spiritual Guidance Guru
- Big bass thunder from Illionis. Moved to DC years ago.
Presently in Guilt Combo, Bernie was one of those guys in Nuclear
Crayons a while ago. What can I tell you about Bernie that you
can't already tell from his bass playing on this record here: Big,
hairy, but a real gent. And a great fuck. Ladies and gentlemen,
Bernie Wandel!
- PO Box 12071 / Washington DC / 20005 USA
- Henry Rollins - Vocal, Free Love, Figure Of Fun
- Big baby-man. Mental cripple. Wanna be all the way. Talks real
loud. Seems like it's a bunch of hot air, but if one gets closer,
one find that... it's hot air and it smells of onions and poop. DC
home boy. Ex S.O.A., ex Black Flag. A confused child, stumbling
dazed to the welfare office. Jesus, what a mess. Pathetic.
- Rollins / PO Box 2461 / Redondo Beach / CA 90278 / USA.
- Jeff Clout - Engineer, Fashion Consultant, Reason For
Living
- Shit, it's Geoff Clout, not Jeff. Watford England. Not entirely
his fault his parents had a lot to do with that. When we walked
into the studio and saw this naked man setting up mikes, we knew
this was going to be great. Mr Clout really went above and beyond
the call of duty. He works at Off Beat Studios in Leeds. These
fellas owe him much and they know it.

Dave's Comments
This disc is a combination of two vinyl releases: The Hot Animal
Machine LP and The Drive By Shooting EP, officially attributed to
Henrietta Collins and the Wifebeating Childhaters (featuring Henry
Rollins). Chris Haskett also participated fully in these works
(co-writing many songs with Rollins), and quite a few songs from
this early disc come up again and again in later Rollins Band
releases
