HENRY ROLLINS' NEW BAND, NEW ALBUM
The last six months have seen the ever-busy Henry Rollins in the studio working on his first
new music record in over two years with a totally new version of Rollins Band.
For the new sessions Rollins has teamed up with guitar player Jim Wilson, bass player
Marcus Blake and drummer Jason Mackenroth and has written and recorded over twenty
songs, the highlights of which will be released in January 2000 on the DreamWorkds label.
For the past five years, Jim, Marcus and Jason, the new band members have been touring
and making records together as the LA based Mother Superior. Says Henry "At the beginning
of 1998, my friends and favorite LA band, Mother Superior, asked if I would produce some
tracks for their next record. I was honored and got on board. The outcome was their fine
record 'Deep'. I asked the guys if they would write some songs with me. They said yes and
so we booked some time at a local rehearsal studio to check it out. It was strange to be in
this particular place as it was the same room I first practiced in when I joined Black Flag in
1981. I had no idea how we would work together. I think we wrote songs that night that
were exactly the kind of music that I had always wanted to make. I'm very happy with "Get
Some Go Again" (the title of the new album). I like the sounds, the playing, the takes , the soul
and the passion, and feel that I have given it everything I've got. I'm very proud of the
record."
"Get Some Go Again" is the first Rollins Band album produced by Rollins himself, and was
recorded in Los Angeles at Cherokee Studios, Clif Norrell undertook the engineering duties.
Dave's Comments:
The advance copy of GET SOME GO AGAIN takes on the familiar look
of DreamWorks promos that do not yet have cover art: Like the
COME IN AND BURN advance CD, and the STARVE promo single,
the packaging has no front cover, and a rear panel featuring the DreamWorks logo
and simple three color printing.
In terms of content, this advance CD is substantially similar to the several versions
of GET SOME GO AGAIN that will be released in various nations. Like the U.S. version,
track 6 is Change It Up (whereas international versions will have Action).
Like the international versions, track 13 is LA Money Train (whereas the U.S.
version will have the ILLUMINATOR remix of ILLUMINATION, as found on the
ILLUMINATION promo single.
